The goal of this project is to develop an approved Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) Watershed Plan – Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Rat and Beaver Lake Watershed in Cherry County, Nebraska. This effort will result in an approved PL-566 Plan-EA that will guide the Middle Niobrara Natural Resources District on where to most effectively locate structural and non-structural projects to achieve flood prevention, watershed protection, and groundwater recharge goals for the watershed.
Description
As part of the NRCS’s Watershed Flood Prevention Operations (WFPO) Program, the Middle Niobrara Natural Resources District is seeking to complete a Watershed Plan – EA. The project is needed to address stream degradation, bank erosion, inundated hay meadows, calving areas, and damaged infrastructure associated with excessive flows within the watershed. The project received approval in August 2020 and started in early 2021. The project is currently on-going and will be updated as it progresses. The final EA is scheduled to be complete in August 2022.
