Bald Eagle Nesting Site

E&A is currently performing environmental services at the Anchor View development near 180th and Ida Streets. One of E&A’s environmental scientists, Joe Manning, went above and beyond what is expected of him after a construction observer informed him that a pair of Bald Eagles were nesting in the area.

Instead of simply telling the contractor to abide by the signs posted by NE Game and Parks, he confirmed the current regulations of Bald Eagles. He made an immediate site visit to assess the field conditions, get photos, and take accurate distance measurements. Joe then wrote detailed instructions for the contractor and created the map shown below.

Our environmental team is experienced in Avian Nest Surveys and knows that Bald Eagles are protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. According to the Migratory Bird Treaty Act*, it is a violation of federal law to harass or disturb them or their nesting area. Noise in the area should be kept to a minimum, and work near Anchor View has halted until after the eggs have hatched and the young have left the nest. The contractor can resume sometime in mid-Summer in 2022.
