The 2021 summer interns wrapped up their summer experiences in August. This was the 6th group of interns since starting the formal program in 2016. We added three more positions than in previous years for a total of 12 interns! Two of them were Westside High School students that joined us through our partnership with Intern Omaha.

It was a summer full of hard work and learning. We continue to strive for a healthy dose of hands-on experience mixed with many networking opportunities and learning experiences. Our goal is to offer these young professionals a well-rounded program that helps them truly understand how the engineering industry works.

As part of their development, the interns volunteered at Open Door Mission’s Timberlake Outreach Center by stocking shelves. Following this opportunity, the interns worked together to collect 403 pounds in food and toiletries to help fill those very same shelves. This great group independently realized they could collaborate as a team in order to broaden their impact on the community.

They ended the summer with presentations to leaders throughout the organization. Their wisdom and commentary about their experiences can be read by scrolling over each individual’s photo. Following their presentations, the interns had their annual end-of-summer celebration, which was a pickleball tournament.

All in all, we had another great summer! We are looking forward to getting on the hunt for more great interns to fill our Summer 2022. Job postings will open in late September 2021.

Andrew Hukill

I started in the civil engineering department, and then transitioned to the surveying departmentfor my second internship. I was surprised to see how measurements can look so different in real life! Whether you want to be an engineer or surveyor, it’s important to know what plans look like both on the computer and in the field.

Bence Brown

My advice to future interns is to ask questions. I know it sounds cliché, but I found out that it is so true!

Alyssa Villarreal

This summer has been an excellent learning opportunity for me. I know that I will use what I have learned here at E&A every day in my professional career. I’m so grateful to E&A and my team for teaching me so much in such a short time. Thank you!

Eli Muehlich

Something that opened my eyes during my internship was that not only do you need to be focused on the current step of a project, but you also need to be thinking multiple steps ahead to keep the project running smoothly.

Jordan Jurgens

My advice to future interns is to be willing to learn anything. I loved working here and never once woke up dreading going to work. Every day was different and fun.

Alex Walter

I really liked that I could always be busy because there is always a way to help out other people on the team or even other teams.

Kelsi Weilage

Interning in the survey department taught me so many things that I would never have learned in a classroom. This summer has provided me with hands-on experience that I know will benefit me in my future classes and in my career.

Trevor Wald

I learned a lot about how much actually goes into a project. And as a second-year intern, I got to see more of how all of the different departments work together to get things done.

Tyler Sullivan

I couldn’t have asked for more as an intern. I was part of a real team working on real projects that made a real difference. I enjoyed my time here so much and I still have a lot to learn!

William Zawaideh-Haddadin

During my first internship with E&A, I worked in the Omaha office. This year I was able to work from the Lincoln office to balance my work and school responsibilities. They made me feel welcome in Lincoln from day one and the transition was seamless. Having a fun office environment and good relationships with coworkers makes going to work fun!

Zane Boudreau

E&A is so different from any other company that I know. They support their employees and really care about each individual. I’m excited to apply again next summer!

Isaac Persky

I was surprised to see how a professional work place can still be fun while getting the work done. And I learned that marketing is connected to every part of a company, even though it might not always be obvious.
