The Yard was an infill site in an older, urban section of Omaha seeing a resurgence of growth. It brought together multiple owners, architects, contractors and subcontractors. A complete overhaul on 15th street was needed to make the change in use from industrial to civil and retail.
I have worked with E&A on numerous projects over the last 20 years. They have provided design, planning and engineering services for small individual projects, large residential subdivisions and very complex mixed-use urban projects such as The Yard Development in North Downtown Omaha. Before the project began, 15th was an asphalt roadway with both surface and subsurface drainage issues. E&A coordinated new water and gas main installations with MUD, and changes to 15th street with the City of Omaha.
Highlights of the project included:
- Addition of on-street parking
- 15th Street realignment and added diagonal parking stalls
- Addition of decorative sidewalks and landscape planters
- Utility relocation and coordination
- Stormwater drainage improvements
