The Yard

Omaha, NE

E&A provided construction administration services for the streets and sidewalks associated with this complex project.  The project turned a 4-acre parking lot into a three-building development and realigned a portion of 15th street. This was a highly visible project with many partners providing input and an additional need to satisfy the City of Omaha.

I have worked with E&A on numerous projects over the last 20 years. They have provided design, planning and engineering services for small individual projects, large residential subdivisions and very complex mixed-use urban projects such as The Yard Development in North Downtown Omaha. I have always found their expertise, responsiveness and advice to be very professional and valued. I would highly recommend them for design, planning and engineering services.

Description

E&A’s construction observers paid particular attention to the sidewalks which had minimal slopes, so accuracy was essential to avoid ponding water; the curb heights, which had to be set in relation to multiple doorways and coordination with multiple contractors during various phases of construction.

The deadline to complete Kiewit University was very tight and required paving during the winter time. This meant the subgrade had to be protected with tarps to regulate the temperate. It required monitoring twice a day and relaying that information to the city of Omaha personnel.

Features of the project include:

  • Kiewit University, a three-story, 46,000 SF building
  • 5-story hotel
  • 3-story apartment building with lower level retail
  • Addition of on-street parking
  • 15th Street realignment
  • Utility relocation and coordination
