Project Description
The overall goal of this project was to pave and improve Schram Road from Copper Ridge Road to S 234th Street. Approximately 320 trees were designated within the existing right-of-way for removal during the MBTA primary nesting season.
E&A’s scientist thoroughly surveyed all trees and vegetation located within the almost mile and a quarter long road corridor for the presence of migratory birds and their nests. E&A identified ten active nests and nineteen inactive nests, and flagged the locations of the active nests and coordinated with the tree removal contractor to eliminate any impacts to the breeding birds on the property. E&A completed a follow-up inspection to re-inspect the active nests after the species-specific fledging time had passed.
*Note: An avian nest survey must be conducted or supervised by a qualified biologist. Per Nebraska Game and Parks Commission recommendations, avian nest surveys should be completed no more than 5 days prior to the proposed tree or vegetation removal activities, but no more than 7 days can elapse under the MBTA. The MBTA is applicable year-round, but most migratory bird nesting in Nebraska takes place between April and September.
