Project Description
The overall goal of this project was to develop an additional residential development in Ashland, Nebraska, adjoining the Iron Horse neighborhood and golf course. The removal of approximately 200 trees was planned as a part of developing this neighborhood within the 20-acre property.
In the course of the two day-long avian nest survey, five active nests and sixteen inactive migratory bird nests were identified. The five active nests included two Mourning Dove nests, an Eastern Towhee nest, an American Robin nest, and a Blue Jay nest. To meet the client’s schedule, E&A flagged the locations of the active nests and contacted the grading contractor at the end of the site visits to convey the areas that needed to be undisturbed and to provide the fledging timeframe for the observed species.
*Note: An avian nest survey must be conducted or supervised by a qualified biologist. Per Nebraska Game and Parks Commission recommendations, avian nest surveys should be completed no more than 5 days prior to the proposed tree or vegetation removal activities, but no more than 7 days can elapse under the MBTA. The MBTA is applicable year-round, but most migratory bird nesting in Nebraska takes place between April and September.
