E&A has a lot to celebrate during National Engineers Week: our dedicated, talented team of engineers, 60 years of delivering engineering solutions to our local communities, and the honor of receiving two 2026 American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Nebraska Engineering Excellence Awards.
The annual awards recognize the projects and firms that shape our communities, drive innovation and improve lives through expertise, leadership and dedication to the public. Selected by a panel of industry, government, and academic professionals, the Engineering Excellence Awards represent the highest level of achievement within Nebraska’s engineering community.
Engineering Excellence Award, Small Projects
The Play Meadow – A Community for The Prairies
E&A was recognized for The Play Meadow, a thoughtfully-designed, 0.73-acre multi-generational public park in The Prairies neighborhood. Serving as the lead civil consultant, E&A provided engineering, municipal services, surveying, landscape architecture, and construction administration. The project was led by Teresa Wooten, Municipal Services Project Engineer, and Matt Tiarks, PLA, ASLA, CPSI, Landscape Architect, alongside team members across multiple E&A departments and service areas.
Located adjacent to The Prairies’ pool and community center, the park has a 16-element play meadow for children ages 2-12, featuring a swing grove with architectural gliders, open lawn space, and an aspen grove with a meandering trail that provides natural noise buffering.
The project demonstrates how engineering enhances everyday community life. By delivering ADA-compliant circulation, resilient drainage systems, and durable, low-maintenance infrastructure, E&A embedded engineering excellence at every stage of the design. The Play Meadow transformed undeveloped land into an inclusive, sustainable gathering space—setting a precedent for future neighborhood developments and reinforcing the role of civil engineering in shaping vibrant, active communities.
Engineering Excellence Award, Special Projects
The Arthur Multi-Family Project
E&A was also recognized for our work on The Arthur Project, a modern multi-family development that creatively integrates historic preservation. The project incorporated the Pittman Veterinary Building, a 1948 Art Moderne landmark, into the new housing community as its office and meeting hub—honoring Omaha’s architectural heritage while delivering a contemporary, transit-oriented development with 329 apartments.
As lead civil consultant, E&A provided ALTA and topographic surveys, entitlement coordination, right-of-way vacation, and full civil site design. The team also delivered landscape architecture, public improvements, Post-Construction Stormwater Management Plan (PCSMP) design, construction services, and final PCSMP certification. The project was a collaborative effort across multiple E&A departments, led by Doug Walter, PE, Civil Engineering Project Manager, and Kyle Haase, Planning Services Assistant Manager.
E&A’s holistic approach ensured seamless integration of infrastructure, sustainability, and community priorities. The Arthur Project reflects how thoughtful engineering can bridge past and future, preserving cultural identity while supporting smart growth and urban vitality.
These awards reflect more than individual project success—they represent the passion, collaboration, and technical excellence that define E&A. As we celebrate National Engineers Week and six decades of service, we are proud to continue building solutions that strengthen infrastructure, enrich public spaces, and leave a lasting, positive impact on the communities we call home.
