Project Description
As part of the City of Omaha’s 5B Program, this project upgraded two blocks of 29th Street—from Hamilton to Seward—transforming a 12- to 18-foot-wide gravel roadway into a 25-foot-wide concrete street with sidewalk grading and curb ramp improvements at intersections. The work enhanced accessibility and safety while minimizing neighborhood disruption.
The corridor served five residential driveways and three alleyways, requiring careful coordination to maintain access. In partnership with the Nebraska Board of Classification and Standards (NBCS), the design team leveraged existing k-values for vertical curves to eliminate two retaining walls and reduce a third from 20 feet to 8 feet—lowering both construction impact and cost.
