Located just north of Creighton University’s campus, this two-story regional academic medical center was designed with a clinic on the upper level and an emergency room on the lower level. The site offered its share of complications, situated within an urban, three-block area that contained vacant lots and steep slopes. Parking lots, utilities and buildings needed to be removed.
Civil engineering challenges included removals, grading, and post-construction stormwater management. Because the site was in a CSO (combined sewer overflow) area, stormwater detention was designed to lower run-off to less than pre-existing conditions.
Description
E&A prepared SWPPP, utility, storm, grading, paving, PCSMP and landscape plans. We solved the problem of a large volume of detention using one underground and two above-ground post construction stormwater management structures. Accessible grades adjacent to the facility were a particular challenge in this fast-paced project because details of the building footprint were adjusted many times.
