Matt’s New (For Now) Normal

Matt Beran, Public Works & Transportation Project Manager

Over the next couple of weeks, we will peek into the lives of some employees to see how they are adapting during this surreal time.

How have things changed for you?
I am working from home more now and communication is handled in different ways. I am relying more on virtual tools to connect with others, both internally and externally. My wife was already homeschooling three of our young boys before the pandemic hit, so the biggest changes for them have been missing community activities (choir, sports, co-ops, etc.) and the addition of a new baby, just a week before this all hit! We have to remind the boys that although dad is home more, he is still “at work” and needs his space to focus and make calls without interruption.

So how are we making it work?
I try to take time to reflect and be thankful for the things that we have. I look for the positives that have come from this, like becoming more familiar with new ways to utilize technology to stay connected while social distancing. It’s been helpful to know that E&A is truly looking out for their employees during this. Clients and coworkers have also been understanding, knowing our shared challenges.

Advice for others in your same situation?
Try to limit your worrying to the things you can control. Practice gratitude. Find ways to connect with and encourage others. Go out of your way to make a positive impact in their lives.
